Volunteer Police Program

The Dundee Police Department volunteer program is affiliated with the National Volunteers in Police Service program, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. For more information visit National V.I.P.S. 

Police Chief, Todd Opperman states “Our volunteers play an integral role in the Departments ability to serve the public. We utilize them to assist in performing routine tasks, which frees up sworn officer to take care of business.”

In 2013-2014 the V.I.P.S. have 14 active volunteers, 7 Mounted Division Members and over 800 volunteer hours

What is V.I.P.S.:
The Volunteers in Police Service are a group of ordinary citizens dedicated to exemplary community service and public awareness through the Dundee Police Department. They are a highly trained and motivated force of volunteer workers, performing non-hazardous police functions in the community. They assist the Department in the support services, patrol and community lead events. Their countless donated hours make the Village of Dundee a better place to live, work, play and shop. Volunteers are not utilized to replace sworn officers, or other paid positions, but rather to enhance the overall efficiency of the department. Their efforts help reduce crime and increase the services that the Police Department can provide to the community.
